What are Time Trials?
The club holds time trials on a regular basis throughout the year and they are based on ASA gala events with the benefits being as follows:-
· The coaches get an accurate recording of each swimmers time for different strokes and distances which in turn assists them when making gala team selections.
· The swimmers get used to swimming under gala conditions which hopefully helps to make their first proper gala not such a daunting event.
· If a swimmer gets disqualified the reason is added to the time slip and this then gets back to the coaches who can help the swimmer correct the problem. This hopefully avoids future disqualifications in proper galas.
· Older swimmers will often use time trials to see if they can achieve qualifing times for county events.
Time trials are always held at Trinity School on a Sunday afternoon 04:00pm – 06:00pm, in place of training.
Entry is currently £1.50 per swimmer.
(which goes towards the cost of the badges that swimmers can gain based on their times.)
PB (Personal Best) cards are normally available and these can be kept by parents to record their swimmers times as they progress through the club. The PB cards have target times printed on the back of them that the swimmers need to achieve to obtain badges.
Note;- Swimmers are not told what to swim at Time Trials, they can choose what stroke and distance to swim. There are distances of 25m, 50m and 100m, and 100m or 200m for Individual Medley. However, they can only swim one distance per stroke, e.g. one breaststroke event, one fly event etc.
