Cygnets 1 Squad Criteria – 2010

This is the first level of the club, catering for swimmers of a younger age. Swimmers will be taught the rules and techniques used by competitive swimmers. The focus will be on improving techniques and learning the competitive starts and turns. Those who meet the standards required will move up to Cygnets 2.

The minimum number of sessions that a swimmer MUST attend is 6 of the above in any four week period.

Cygnets 2 Squad entry requirements

To attend a minimum average of 2 sessions per week per month and to be punctual to sessions.

To compete in club championships; A minimum of 3x50m events, 2x100m events and 1x200m events, and to demonstrate the ability to compete effectively at these events during the course of the year.

To have a minimum of 3 strokes at competition level efficiency.

To be able to perform a racing start and turn in all strokes and to be streamlined in both starts and turns.

The above criteria may change without prior notice or justification on the recommendation of the Head Coach.

Competition Requirements

Club Hat (plus spare) – compulsory to wear
Club Polo Shirt or Club Tea Bag
Goggles (plus spare)
Club Shorts - optional
Club Hoodie - once the swimmer has represented the club at 5 competitions - optional

All swimmers who are chosen to represent the club at a gala MUST endeavour to make themselves available for these competitions. The Head Coach and club committee will not guarantee the squad place of a swimmer who consistently does not participate in open meets and/or club galas.

If you have been selected to compete on behalf of the club, the Gala Secretary should be informed by email / in writing if a swimmer is unable to attend as soon as it is clear that they will not be able to attend.

Cygnets 3 Squad entry requirements

To attend a minimum average of 2 sessions per week per month and to be punctual to sessions.

To be prepared to compete in the galas that you selected for.

To be able to use the clock for swim/rest times and to be able to know how long it took to complete a swim.

To be able to complete a 200m IM and a 400m freestyle swim, demonstrating good turns and stroke efficiency throughout.

To be able to demonstrate good lane discipline and appropriate training behaviour e.g. warm up appropriately.

To be within 12 seconds of 2 Kent qualifying times
