Thanet open meet - july 2010

Six swimmers took part in the Thanet Open on the 10th July. It was a separated medley event where all swimmers were required to swim either 50m (for the 10 & unders) or 100m (for the over 10s) of each stroke. The aggregate scores were then counted and the top 6 swimmers in each age group went through to the final where they had to swim either 100m or 200m IM.

Well done to all six swimmers, Tanglin Ireland, Robert Shorter, Alex Din, Vicky Ward, Nicola Kleist and Henrietta Shorter for braving all four strokes. Every swimmer achieved at least one significant PB so it was worth the effort.

Tanglin Ireland came first in all four of his 50m swims and went through to the final to win the 100m IM. Robert Shorter came 4th in his freestyle and breaststroke and 5th in his backstroke, and completed a 200m IM coming 5th in the final. Alex Din achieved three 3rd places and a 4th and came 4th overall in the 200m IM final. Nicola Kleist, competing in her first ever open meet, did very well coming 6th in the 200m IM final in a personal best time and Henri Shorter went through to the 200m IM final and achieved 5th place.

A very successful weekend for you all and very enjoyable for me to see you swimming strokes you might not normally swim. Well done to you all.

Black Lion Open Meet - June 2010

On the 22nd/23rd May Bromley Swimming Club took part in the Black Lion Open Meet. This was a level 2 open meet and an excellent opportunity for some of our younger and less experienced swimmers to get some race practice as well as for our older swimmers who missed out on competing in the London Regional Championships or Beckenham open meet in the preceding weeks. 18 swimmers from Bromley competed in 48 events with a very respectable 54% of those swims being PBs.

It was good to see so many of the younger swimmers taking part and trying new events. Well done to all of our young swimmers; Joe Dobb, Michael Eagling, Phoebe Hampson, Felix Haslam and Joel Woodward.

PB achievers were: Alex Din, Cameron Butler, Chloe Dobb, Ellen Scholes, Felix Haslam, Jade Hewitt, Joe Dobb, Katie Lockwood, Michael Eagling, Nick Lockwood, Phoebe Hampson and Theo Haslam.

Those swimmers with a top 6 finish were: Alex Din (3rd 400 Free’), Chloe Dobb (6th 400 Free’), Felicity Hamilton-Cox (3rd 100 Breast’), Phoebe Hampson (5th 200 Breast’), Theo Haslam (3rd 50 Back’, 2nd 100 Breast’, 5th 100 Back’, 2nd 50 Breast’, 4th 50 Fly’, 5th 50 Free’).

Well done again to everyone who took part

Beckenham Open 2010

The weekend of 9th/10th May saw another very successful competition at Crystal Palace. 18 swimmers represented Bromley SC in 56 events. Of these swims 82% were long course personal best times, and we achieved a top 6 finish in almost a quarter of them.

Beckenham open meet is a Level 1 open- the highest level of competition you can get to in an open meet format. This means it attracts top swimmers, many of whom attend in the hopes of achieving their national times, so Bromley faced some very tough competition.

Congratulations to all PB achievers, and special congratulations to those of you who were swimming in a long-course pool for the first time either this weekend or last weekend at the London Regional Championships. Many swimmers achieved a PB in every race they swum: a very good effort from you all. PBs were achieved by:
Robert Shorter (50 Breast’, 50 Back’, 100 Free’, 200 Free’, 200 IM), Theo Haslam (50 & 100 Fly’, 50 & 100 Back’, 50, 100 & 200 Breast’, 50 & 100 Free’), Alex Din (50, 100 & 200 Back’, 50 & 100 Free’), Cameron Butler (50 Fly’, 50 Free’), Ethan Reeves (50 Breast’, 50 Back’, 50 & 100 Free’), Richard Knight (50 Fly’, 100 Back’, 50 & 100 Free’).
Chloe Dobb (50 Free’), Louisa Knight (50 Free’), Taylor McCarthy (50 Free’, 50 Breast’, 100 Back’, 200 IM), Jade Hewitt (50 Free’, 50 Back’, 50 Breast’, 100 Back’), Gabby Eastment (50 Breast’), Henri Shorter (50 Free’, 50 Fly’, 200 Free’), Holly Barnes (50 Free’), Felicity Hamilton-Cox (50 Fly’), Hailey Pearcey (50 Breast’), Emily Bone (50 Breast’).

Top-6 finishes were achieved by Theo Haslam (2nd in 50 Breast’, 100 Breast’ and 50 Fly’, 3rd in 100 Fly’, 4th in 50 Back’ and 100 Free’, 5th in 50 Free’), Ethan Reeves (4th in 50 Breast’), Oliver Lister (6th in 100 Breast’), Felicity Hamilton-Cox (1st in 100 Breast’), Abbie Regelous (5th in 50 Breast’) and Emily Bone (1st 50 Breast, 4th 50 Fly’).

Well done to everyone who swum, I hope you all enjoyed yourselves. The full results can be found on Beckenham SC’s website or by clicking ::here::

Crawley Open Meet (Long-course) also took place this weekend and we had three swimmers competing. Both Felicity Hamilton-Cox and Gina Deave achieved Long Course PBs, Felicity in the 100m Breaststroke and Gina in the 200m Breaststroke.

Special congratulations go to James Brinkley for achieving his National Qualifying Time for 50m Freestyle. James is the first swimmer I have coached to this standard so I am particularly proud of him and he will go on to compete at Ponds Forge pool in Sheffield later this year against some of the best athletes in the country.

Overall a very successful weekend, well done everyone.

Opens provide a great opportunity for swimmers to compete in events of their choice against swimmers of similar ability from other clubs, to achieve personal best times and hopefully win medals or trophies.

The Club will organise entry in approximately 6 Opens a year. The next meet is;

Thanet Separated Medley Open – Saturday 10th July 2010
